The Moscow Museum of Modern Art is pleased to present the first solo exhibition of Jacques .Lipchitz, an outstanding avant-garde sculptor of the 20th century and a prominent representative of the School of Paris, to be held in Russia. Lipchitz was one of the most notable sculptors who adopted the principles of Cubism and persistently applied them in his works, gaining recognition from both connoisseurs and the general public. Later, moving away from Cubism, he kept his expressiveness and daring approach to form. .Published to coincide with the exhibition in the Moscow Museum of Modern Art, the present edition reflects on the history of sculpture in the 20th century, factors that shaped its development, and Lipchitz's circle of artists and friends, who influenced his approach. Jacques Lipchitz marked a turning point in the perception of art and, along with Pablo Picasso and Marc Chagall, became a symbol of the new art. Along with the artworks presented in the exhibition, the catalogue contains additional materials such as an article by the exhibition curator Kosme de Baranano about the sculptor's life and work, an essay by an art historian Mikhail Kamen-sky about Lipchitz's visit to the USSR in 1935, interesting facts about the sculptor's life, previously unpublished images from the archives of Musee d'Art et d'Histoire du JudaTsme in Paris as well as photographs of sculptures and graphic works from the collections of Marlborough Gallery, the Israel Museum in Jerusalem, and private collections. .This retrospective exhibition is a continuation of the museum's exhibition program aimed at introducing visitors to the work of important modernist artists. The project is prepared in celebration of the 70th anniversary of the establishment of Israel. .I would like to express my sincere gratitude to The Estate of Jacques Lipchitz, Marlborough Gallery and Kosme de Baranano for their help and support in organizing the exhibition, as well as to the team of the Moscow Museum of Modern Art for the successfully realised project.

Classics such as Annie Hall, Manhattan, Stardust Memories, Broadway Danny Rose and Hannah and Her Sisters still resonate, and more recently Midnight in Paris and Blue Jasmine have been notable successes. Born Allan Stewart Konigsberg on 1 December 1935 and raised in New York City, he was destined for a show-business career when he began writing scripts for TV shows while still a teenager. He then achieved recognition as a stand-up comedian with the release of three albums of his nightclub performances. Allen first tried writing a screenplay in the mid-1960s for What's New Pussycat?. Not satisfied with the final film, he decided that he would direct as well as write his next picture, What's Up, Tiger Lily?, in 1966. Woody Allen's output has always been prodigious; he has made a film a year, more or less, since the early 1970s. Famously indifferent to award ceremonies, and having never accepted an Oscar in person, Allen has won numerous accolades for his directing and writing, including four Oscars, nine BAFTAs, two Golden Globes and, in 2014, the prestigious Cecil B. DeMille award for his contribution to cinema.
